We are closed for the summer, while Plaza Palomino continues its extensive renovations. Come September, we will be moving back into our original space, Suite 136, across from Dark Star Leather. In the meantime, please feel free to contact any one of us to see our work individually.

We’ve moved!

Flux Gallery has moved from its original space to another suite in Plaza Palomino. We are now located at the southwest corner of the plaza, in Suite 114, on Swan Road, down from Luna Bella (now the new Red Sky and Luna Bar). Our official address is 2920 North Swan Road, Suite 114. The new space used to be a coffee shop, so we have some adjustments to make before we reopen for visitors, but please feel free in the meantime to contact any of us individually for a private showing of his or her work.

Please join us at Flux Gallery on Friday, April 20, from 5 to 8 p.m. to celebrate spring and to enjoy the art of Tucson artists Lee Roy Beach, Steven Derks, Peter Eisner, Sheryl Holland, Dragana Skrepnik, and Lynne Yamaguchi. This will be our last event in our current space, as we will be moving to a different suite in Plaza Palomino, Suite 100, immediately after. So come join with us in toasting the glorious setting that has been our home for the last two and a half years.

Flux Gallery is once again in flux. Painter C. J. Shane and fiber artist Mary Vaneecke are leaving the gallery collective to focus on other prospects. Lee Roy Beach will be stepping back from the gallery as well, although we will continue to exhibit some of his work, along with work by original Flux member Steven Derks.

In addition, we are cutting back our hours. Effective immediately, we will be open only Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. To see the gallery by appointment at another time, please feel free to contact any one of us, via email or at the phone numbers below.

Join us for an Exhibition of Guest Artist Neil Weinstein’s Work

Flux Gallery will be hosting guest artist and sculptor Neil Weinstein for an exhibition of his work from Thursday, February 16, through Saturday, February 18. Gallery hours those days will be from 10 am – 3 pm. An artist reception will be Friday, February 17 from 5-8 pm. Please join us.

Neil’s subject is the human form and he works from clay which is then fired to at least 2100 degrees. His work ‘celebrates the human body’s infinite variety of curves and volumes, unexpected transitions, intriguing shadows, and dramatic tensions.’

“Beyond Containment”

“Beyond Containment,” an art exhibit of paintings and sculptural turned wood vessels by Flux artists C. J. Shane and Lynne Yamaguchi, will open February 2, 2012, with a reception from 5 to 7 p.m., at the Tucson Jewish Community Center (JCC) Fine Art Gallery in Tucson. The exhibit will be up through March 13, 2012.

Woodturner Lynne Yamaguchi says that the “Beyond Containment” theme applies to her work on several levels. “Though the vessels that I make are literally containers, I approach them as sculptural objects, beyond their traditional function. I also treat them as metaphors, primarily for aspects of the human condition. And much of my new work directly explores the idea of refusing to be contained; for example, a new series, titled ‘Becoming,’ includes works that play with shedding or breaking out of or emerging from an old form to embody a new one.”

Yamaguchi exhibits locally and nationally. She most recently exhibited her elegant wooden vessels at the Shemer Art Center in Phoenix. You can see more of her work at www.lynneyamaguchi.com.

C. J. Shane is best known for her oil paintings and monotypes. Her color- and texture-intense abstracted landscapes are deeply informed by the Sonoran desert landscape. To Shane, “Beyond Containment” refers to her experience of the natural world. “My hope is that the viewer of my art will be reminded of the serenity and depth to be found in the natural world.” Shane exhibits locally and nationally. “Beyond Containment” will be up through March 13, 2012. Gallery hours are Monday to Thursday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday and Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The center is closed on Saturdays. The Tucson Jewish Community Center is located at 3800 E. River Road, Tucson, AZ.

Peter will talk about how he forms his colorful abstract sculptures, as well as his finishing techniques. Flux’s mixed-media textile artist Mary Vaneecke will give an artist talk at the gallery Saturday, December 3, at 2:00 p.m.. She will discuss how her work relates to and breaks the boundaries of traditional quilting. Expect lots of show and tell and work that has not been shown at Flux before.
